She had just been introduced as the speaker for the special worship celebration in honor of International Women’s Day. The women of our local church planned everything, and were now putting that plan into action. All the participants were women, from greeters to vocalists to electric guitarist and drummer.

Lalia wrinkled her forehead; still no sound from her microphone.

One of the women in the front row piped up: “I think we need a man to fix this problem!” General laughter and clapping. One of the young men from the tech team was quick to find the solution, and Lalia had her public voice.

She spoke about daily stress, seen through the lens of Abigail, Nabal’s wife (1 Samuel 25). Like it or not, stress will hound us all the days of our lives. The question is not if we will face stress, but how. Abigail can give us some pointers.

When Lalia is not translating important books from English to Portuguese, she occasionally speaks to groups small and large. God has given her the gift of communication and she is using it to his glory.
The team that made it all happen at our local church in São Paulo -- Igreja Batista Nações Unidas.

Update from Curt & Lalia Kregness
January 2014

PROMIFÉ

PROMIFÉ = Vacation Missionary Project. I (Curt) teamed up with 50 young people from Brazil and Angola early this month to spread the good news of Jesus in the city of Bebedouro. Each morning I led a Bible study on the topic "Idols of the Heart." God spoke to me through the process, and to many of the teens.

People

Bible characters like Naaman (2 Kings 5) illustrated the ubiquitous presence of idols in our own lives.

Strategy

In the afternoons and evenings hundreds of people were contacted through house-to-house visits, children's programs, outdoor film showings, pantomime theater and dance.

Follow-up

Some people made professions of faith in Jesus. The Promifé project always partners with local pastors and churches to disciple new believers and seekers.
